TLE DESK: A Russian strike on Ukraine’s western city of Ternopil overnight killed nine people and injured dozens more, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Wednesday, marking one of the deadliest attacks on the city since the full-scale invasion began.
“In Ternopil, residential nine-storey buildings were hit… dozens of people are known to have been injured and, sadly, nine people have died,” Zelensky said on social media.
He also shared images and footage showing heavily damaged apartment blocks, debris-covered courtyards, and smoke rising from the ruins. Authorities fear more people may be trapped beneath the rubble.
Russia has intensified its drone and missile strikes in recent months, frequently targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and repeatedly striking civilian areas as winter approaches.
In the latest overnight barrage, Russia launched more than 470 drones and 48 missiles of various types, according to Zelensky.
Regional officials reported additional injuries in the northeastern Kharkiv region and in Ivano-Frankivsk in the west, as Moscow’s attacks once again stretched across multiple fronts.
