Iran says no final decision yet as Trump claims peace deal imminent

Iran has said it has not yet made a final decision on a proposed framework agreement to end the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, despite US President Donald Trump’s claim that a deal could be signed as early as Sunday.
According to Iranian media reports, Tehran remains cautious about the timing of any agreement, with officials indicating that a signing could take place in the coming days rather than immediately.
The latest development comes as a Qatari delegation arrived in Tehran to help advance negotiations, highlighting intensified diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and prevent a return to full-scale regional conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the proposed understanding was closer than ever, but noted that the agreement remains under review by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
Meanwhile, Trump reiterated that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen to international shipping immediately after a deal is signed. However, analysts say Tehran is unlikely to permanently relinquish its leverage over the strategically important waterway, through which a significant share of global oil and gas supplies pass.
The uncertainty comes amid continued regional tensions. Israeli forces carried out fresh air strikes in southern Lebanon on Sunday, while military exchanges involving Iran-backed groups and Israel have continued despite diplomatic progress.
The proposed agreement is expected to establish a framework for future discussions on key issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and economic sanctions, though major differences remain unresolved.
