Ukraine strikes Russian military industry in Volgograd as drone attack kills civilian
TLE Desk: Ukraine has struck a major Russian military-industrial facility in the city of Volgograd, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, as a separate overnight Russian drone attack killed a civilian in Ukraine’s northeastern Sumy region.
The latest exchange of attacks comes as the war enters its fifth year, with both sides continuing long-range strikes against military and strategic infrastructure.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo missiles successfully hit the Titan-Barrikady industrial complex in Volgograd, describing it as a key defence manufacturing facility producing artillery systems and specialised military equipment.
Ukraine’s General Staff said the plant manufactures equipment for missile systems, including self-propelled launchers and transport-loading vehicles for Russia’s Iskander-M ballistic missile system.
According to Kyiv, the Iskander-M system has frequently been used by Russian forces to launch missile attacks against Ukrainian cities.
Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes against Russian defence industries, fuel depots and energy infrastructure in recent months, aiming to disrupt Moscow’s military logistics and reduce revenues supporting the war effort.
Ukrainian officials say the strategy is designed to weaken Russia’s ability to sustain military operations while increasing domestic pressure on President Vladimir Putin to engage in negotiations.
Western officials and military analysts say repeated attacks on Russian energy facilities and defence industries have strained fuel supplies and complicated military deliveries to frontline forces.
Meanwhile, Russian forces continued aerial attacks on Ukraine overnight.
Authorities in Ukraine’s Sumy region said a Russian drone strike killed one civilian, although further details about the victim and the extent of damage were not immediately released.
There was no immediate response from Russian authorities regarding Ukraine’s reported strike on the Titan-Barrikady facility, and the extent of damage at the industrial complex could not be independently verified.
The exchange underscores the continuing escalation of long-range attacks by both sides, with military production facilities and critical infrastructure increasingly becoming primary targets far from the front lines.
