Iranian delegation arrives in Switzerland for talks with US
TLE Desk: An Iranian delegation arrived in Switzerland late on Saturday ahead of talks with the United States aimed at advancing a preliminary agreement designed to end the Middle East conflict and address Tehran’s nuclear programme.
The Swiss foreign ministry confirmed the delegation’s arrival, saying the discussions at the Bürgenstock resort form part of efforts to implement the memorandum of understanding recently signed between Washington and Tehran.
“We welcome the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland,” the ministry said in a statement posted on social media platform X.
Iran’s official news agency IRNA also reported that Tehran’s representatives had reached Switzerland ahead of the negotiations.
The talks are expected to focus on the next phase of the US-Iran agreement, including unresolved issues surrounding Iran’s nuclear activities and broader regional security concerns.
The negotiations come at a delicate moment, with tensions remaining high following renewed clashes between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon and growing uncertainty over the future of the ceasefire.
Diplomats hope the Switzerland meetings will help preserve momentum towards a broader settlement and prevent recent violence from undermining the fragile agreement reached earlier this month.
