Azfar Shehzad Joins RMRN CT as LEC
Pakistani media professional brings experience in news production, digital content writing and broadcast journalism to RMRN’s regional media diplomacy initiative.
The Regional Media Research Network (RMRN) has appointed Muhammad Azfar Shehzad of Pakistan as Lead, Editorial & Communications (LEC) at Core Team (CT), bringing professional experience in news writing, broadcast production and editorial coordination to the network’s growing regional team.
RMRN connects journalists, media professionals and researchers across South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. Through media monitoring, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), research and narrative analysis, the network seeks to encourage informed regional dialogue and a deeper understanding of how important issues are reported across different countries.
In his role, Shehzad will lead RMRN’s editorial and communications activities, helping transform media-monitoring findings, research observations and FGD discussions into clear, accurate and accessible content for publication.
Shehzad currently works as a Content Writer at GTV News, where he writes news articles, scripts and analytical pieces for digital and broadcast platforms. His responsibilities include researching ongoing political, social and international developments, maintaining journalistic accuracy and collaborating with editorial teams to prepare content within daily newsroom deadlines.
Previously, he worked as an Associate Producer at City News Network in Lahore from 2024 to 2026. In that position, he supported the organisation of live news bulletins, talk shows and field news packages. His work included coordinating with reporters, video editors and graphics teams, as well as preparing news tickers, introductions, programme line-ups and scripts for live broadcasts.
These experiences have provided him with practical exposure to newsroom workflows, editorial planning, news scripting and the coordination required to deliver content across broadcast and digital platforms.
Shehzad has completed an MPhil in Broadcasting Journalism and Media Studies at the School of Communication Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore. He also holds a BS in Journalism from the same institution, completed between 2021 and 2025.
His academic background, combined with his professional experience, supports his work in journalistic writing, research, story development and media production.
His core competencies include content writing, news production, research and strategy, broadcast journalism and scriptwriting. He has professional proficiency in English and is fluent in Urdu.
As Lead, Editorial & Communications, Shehzad will help establish a consistent editorial process for RMRN’s public-facing work. His responsibilities will include coordinating the preparation and editing of media briefings, research notes, analytical articles, FGD summaries and other content developed through the network’s activities.
He will work closely with the media-monitoring and verification teams to ensure that relevant findings are presented clearly, sources are appropriately acknowledged and important claims are contextualised before publication.
He will also help maintain editorial consistency across RMRN communications, ensuring that content is accessible to regional and international audiences while retaining its analytical value.
The role will connect RMRN’s internal discussions and research activities with its wider communication and publication objectives.
RMRN’s work extends beyond sharing news reports. The network aims to examine how stories are selected, framed and presented, compare coverage across countries and identify areas where additional evidence or context may be needed.
Shehzad’s newsroom experience will support this process by helping translate complex discussions into well-structured editorial content. Working with colleagues responsible for research, verification, geopolitical analysis, FGD management and digital platforms, he will contribute to a workflow that connects media monitoring with meaningful public communication.
The network’s broader objective is to encourage dialogue based on evidence and multiple perspectives, rather than promoting a single national or political narrative.
As RMRN develops its presence across South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East, editorial quality and responsible communication will remain important to building credibility and reaching wider audiences.
Shehzad’s appointment strengthens this aspect of the network’s work, bringing together professional journalism, research-driven writing and broadcast production experience.
