Textron emerges as overlooked aerospace bet amid SpaceX excitement

June 14, 2026 2 Min Read

TLE Desk: While investor attention remains focused on the highly anticipated SpaceX initial public offering (IPO), some market analysts believe aerospace and defense company Textron could offer a less glamorous but potentially rewarding investment opportunity, reports CNBC.

Textron, the manufacturer of Bell helicopters, Cessna business jets and several industrial products, has been highlighted as a “stealth” aerospace play that is trading at a significant discount compared with many of its defense-sector peers.

According to CNBC’s Options Action, the company has continued to post steady revenue and earnings growth despite broader economic challenges. Its first-quarter results exceeded analyst expectations by more than 11 percent, helping drive a rally in the stock.

However, shares have since retreated and are currently trading at around 13.7 times forward earnings, below the company’s five-year average valuation of approximately 18 times earnings.

Analysts cited concerns about government spending pressures and aviation-sector uncertainties as factors weighing on investor sentiment. However, they noted that global geopolitical tensions continue to support defense spending, benefiting companies such as Textron.

The company is also in the process of divesting its lower-margin industrial operations to focus more heavily on aerospace and defense activities. Analysts believe the move could unlock value from its sizeable order backlog, estimated at around $19 billion.

Textron’s portfolio includes military and commercial aircraft, helicopters and defense systems, positioning it to benefit from sustained demand across both government and private-sector markets.

CNBC’s options strategist Michael Khouw suggested that investors seeking exposure to the stock could consider a limited-risk options strategy rather than purchasing shares outright, citing elevated market valuations and option volatility.

He recommended a bullish September call spread strategy that would allow investors to benefit from potential gains while limiting downside risk.

While the stock has not generated the same excitement as high-profile space and artificial intelligence companies, analysts argue that Textron’s stable earnings growth, cash flow generation and aerospace focus could eventually attract greater investor attention.
