Thailand boosts training for labour inspectors to strengthen worker protection

June 13, 2026 2 Min Read

TLE Desk: Thailand has taken steps to strengthen the capacity of early-career labour inspectors through a new training initiative aimed at improving workplace compliance and enhancing protection for workers, reports the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The programme, organized by Thailand’s labour authorities with support from the ILO, focuses on equipping newly recruited labour inspectors with the knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively monitor working conditions and enforce labour laws.

According to the ILO, labour inspectors play a critical role in ensuring compliance with labour standards, preventing workplace violations and promoting safe and fair employment practices.

The training covers key areas including occupational safety and health, labour rights, inspection techniques, workplace dispute resolution and strategies for identifying labour law violations.

Officials said strengthening inspection capacity is essential to protecting workers, particularly in sectors where labour rights abuses, unsafe working conditions and informal employment remain concerns.

The initiative also seeks to improve inspectors’ ability to engage with employers and workers, conduct effective workplace assessments and respond to emerging labour market challenges.

ILO representatives noted that well-trained labour inspectors are vital to ensuring decent work and supporting fair and productive labour markets.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to modernize labour administration systems and enhance enforcement mechanisms in Thailand.

Participants are expected to apply the skills gained through the training to strengthen workplace oversight and contribute to improved compliance with national labour regulations.

The ILO said continued investment in labour inspection systems remains important for safeguarding workers’ rights, promoting safe working environments and advancing decent work standards.
